"I didn't know a harp could do that!" is a remark often heard at Laurie Riley's concerts. Known for her ability to make a harp sound like a whole new instrument, she can make it speak, make it laugh and cry. Audiences feel her music as a visceral experience. A professional musician since the age of ten, Laurie has toured throughout the US, in Canada, and in Ireland. She plays selections from around the world, from historical times, as well as compositions of her own. "The richness of various cultures' musical styles offers endless ways to express what I play. Whether it's Celtic, South American, Scandinavian, Israeli, Ukranian... there is something new in each tradition." Through her playing, the double-strung harp has emerged as an exciting new sound in the world of harps. She was instrumental in designing the modern double-strung harp which has become popular in recent years among harpers. Two rows of strings played at the same time make this instrument sound like a duet of two harps. She has recorded eleven albums of harp music, authored five books, and made five instructional videos. She also judges harp competitions and teaches for harp organizations in the US and abroad. "As a musician, I am gratefully aware that I hold in my hands the experience of music as a metaphor for life, which is offered as a gift to all who gather to listen." Beth Kolle performs Celtic and Nordic music on harp, flute and Irish pennywhistle, both as a soloist and with various groups in Seattle. She travels in the US, Canada, Europe and Scandinavia to teach and perform. Beth has taken groups of harp players with her to Scandinavia on two performance tours to wide acclaim. As a member of Greensleeves and The Seattle Harp Duo, Beth brings to her performances both a solid classical background and her passion for traditional folk music to enthusiastic audience. Alan Watts is one of the most profound thinkers of the 20th century, in my opinion. I've read many of his books over the years & with the advent of the Internet & specifically YouTube listened to the many recorded lectures & talks he gave over the years. This is one of his best books I think. He makes esoteric topics like mysticism & eastern religions somewhat understandable for the western mind & this book is no exception. Highly recommended.

I absolutely love Alan Watts and his writing is phenomenal. He describes this book specifically as his favorite piece in terms of written and philosophical structure.

I decided to transition into a better person decades ago. That everything that I know and believe was founded on my social experiences to date. To improve on that, I would need to consider other concepts and ideas from those that gained their experience from such. I do not consider myself an expert in any one topic. Although, I am told, "expert," is just another word for "experienced." Grain of salt! Alan Watts took a different path in life and I am grateful to his memory of such a path.

I have been reading and rereading this book since 2002, when a dear friend mailed it to me as a present. It accompanies me on most of my travels, and I can just start reading on a random page. It never fails to challenge my thoughts and beliefs. Even after reading it 10 or 20 times, I still get new insights and sudden revelations about my place in the universe and my relation to the world, nature and my fellow man. On top of that, the writing is erudite and eloquent, in a beautiful British English, more like literature.During my first read I chuckled when I suddenly realized it must have been written before the Internet time, even though it read as a thoroughly contemporary book. So I looked up the publishing date - and saw an amazing 1957...

One does not complete this book. This book serves as a constant reference to not only spiritually, but just generally for life's ills and triumphs. Watts exemplifies his ability to engage the reader so directly in easy to understand language and conceptually simple examples, while still being broad enough to suggest his wisdom for the majority of one's spiritual, emotional and cognitive queries.

I read Nature "Man and Woman" in paper back, when just out of high school. It introduced me to Eastern philosophy and to Alan Watts. Later, when when the US army say fit to post me to South Korea, I met and married my Wife Yong Cha. We've been very happily married for nearly fifty years. I thought it was time to add the hard cover edition to my library. Where else but Amazon partners would one look?

Alan Watts is my spirit animal. Everything by him is class.
