About the Author
Gene H. Bell-Villada, born in Haiti of US parents, was raised in Puerto Rico, Cuba and Venezuela. A professor of Romance Languages at Williams College (Massachusetts), he is the author or editor of ten books, including a TCK memoir, Overseas American: Growing Up Gringo in the Tropics (2005). Nina Sichel is co-editor, with Faith Eidse, of Unrooted Childhoods: Memoirs of Growing Up Global (2004), the first collection of memoirs by Third Culture Kids and Global Nomads. Raised among expats in Venezuela, she relocated many times as an adult, and currently leads memoir and guided writing workshops near Washington, DC.

It is well suited for its target audience and serves as a ready reference for urgent or difficult critical-care questions. It was the only critical-care text I brought on a medical outreach trip to China, and the Chinese physicians specifically asked for this book for future use. The rest of my medical team intends to purchase personal copies. No more enthusiastic or genuine endorsement of this text's quality can be found. About the Author

Peter Barry has published over 60 papers and review articles in the fields of paediatric intensive care, inhalational drug delivery and high altitude medicine. He is currently a consultant in paediatric intensive care, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and an honorary senior lecturer at the Department of Child Health, University of Leicester.
Kevin Morris is a consultant in paediatric intensive care at Birmingham Children's Hospital and an honorary clinical senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He trained in adult medicine before completing his training in paediatrics in Newcastle upon Tyne and Birmingham. He trained in PICU in Toronto, Canada and Melbourne, Australia before taking up his current post in 1997. He has a particular research interest in traumatic brain injury (TBI) in children. Tariq Ali began his training at St Barts and Homerton Hospitals in London before completing his specialist training at University College Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London. He has worked abroad as a visiting consultant at the Baragwanath hospital in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa and has worked briefly for Medicin Sans Frontieres during the conflict in Rwanda. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. He has been a consultant in paediatric intensive care and anaesthesia at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford since 1999.

Michael Sullivan, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at Chicago State University, received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology. Mike taught at Chicago State for 35 years before recently retiring. He is a native of Chicago’s South Side and divides his time between a home in Oak Lawn IL and a condo in Naples FL.

 

Mike is a member of the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America. He is a past president of the Text and Academic Authors Association and is currently Treasurer of its Foundation. He is a member of the TAA Council of Fellows and was awarded the TAA Mike Keedy award in 1997 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. In addition, he represents TAA on the Authors Coalition of America.

 

Mike has been writing textbooks for more than 35 years and currently has 15 books in print, twelve with Pearson Education. When not writing, he enjoys tennis, golf, gardening, and travel.

 

Mike has four children: Kathleen teaches college mathematics; Michael III teaches college mathematics and is his coauthor on two precalculus series; Dan works in publishing; and Colleen teaches middle-school and secondary school mathematics. Twelve grandchildren round out the family.
